Troubleshooting the connection
Start with Test connection in any Quick setup dialog: it checks the address and the credential together, before the client is involved. From a connected client, ask the assistant to run vx-framework/ping, which replies with the plugin version. From the command line, wp vx-framework abilities mcp shows whether MCP is on and which tools are exposed.
| Symptom | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
| 404 at the address | MCP is off, or no abilities are exposed. Turn it on, expose at least one ability, and save. |
| 401 or 403 | Wrong password, or the account isn't an administrator. A client configured from a snippet may still contain the <base64 of …> placeholder. |
| Worked, then stopped | The application password was revoked. Create a new one and reconnect. |
| 405 on a GET request | Normal. The address only accepts POST; clients try GET first and carry on. |
| The client shows tools you turned off, or misses new ones | It's using its cached list. Reconnect it. |
| A copy button copied nothing | The browser refused clipboard access, usually because the site isn't on HTTPS. The dialog shows the text to copy by hand. |
| "Adapter unavailable" on the AI screen | The MCP component bundled with VX didn't load. Check the PHP error log for [vx-abilities] entries. |
To check a credential outside the client:
bash
curl -u 'ai-admin:xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx' "https://example.com/wp-json/wp/v2/users/me"Technical details for LLMs
- Endpoint registration requires
enabledand a non-empty exposed set; both states return 404 otherwise. - The endpoint requires
manage_options; each VX ability re-checks it on execution. window.isSecureContextin the browser console tells you whether the clipboard API is available.
