A tour of the dashboard
Everything you build with VX Framework is managed from one screen: the VX item in the wp-admin menu. It opens a single-page dashboard with its own sidebar. This page explains what each item in that sidebar does.
Data model
- Fieldsets: create and edit fieldsets. Each one has tabs for its fields, its Locations, general settings, revisions, and where its definition lives.
- Post Types: create post types, or manage the settings of ones WordPress or other plugins already registered.
- Taxonomies: the same for taxonomies.
- Option Pages: site-wide settings screens backed by fieldsets.
- Dictionaries: reusable lists of choices.
Connecting
- REST API: choose what your REST API exposes, and preview responses as a public visitor, a logged-in user, or an editor.
- AI: turn on the MCP connection, choose which abilities an assistant can use, and follow setup guides for common AI clients.
Settings
Settings collects site-wide tools, each on its own card:
| Card | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Import / Export | Move your model between sites as files or bundles. See Import and export. |
| Maps & Geocoding | Map tiles and address-search keys for Location and Area fields. See Maps and geocoding. |
| Meta Watch | Move or clean up stored values after you rename or delete fields. See Meta Watch. |
| Field key conflicts | Find fields that would overwrite each other's values. See Field key conflicts. |
| System info | Check requirements and repair VX's database tables. See System info. |
| Documentation | These docs, matching the version you have installed. |
| License | Activate your license and check its status. See License. |
What the dashboard tells you
- A Pro badge marks features that need a Pro license. You'll see a locked field type on an install whose license is inactive, where the field type is present but not licensed.
- A Source tab on post types, taxonomies and fieldsets shows whether the object is defined in the database or in code. When code defines it, a banner tells you whether your dashboard edits are saved back to the file, kept in the database as an override, or blocked.
Where editors see fields
The VX dashboard is only one side of VX. Field values are filled in on the screens WordPress already has: the post editor, the term screens, and user profiles. See Editing content for who can see those fields.
