System dictionaries
Pro
System dictionaries are lists VX maintains for you. Link one to a choice field instead of typing 250 countries by hand. They're read-only, and they have no Source tab.
| Dictionary | What's stored | Label shown |
|---|---|---|
| Countries | The two-letter ISO code (PT) | The country name (Portugal) |
| Currencies | The ISO code (EUR) | Name and code (Euro (EUR)) |
| Length (metric / imperial) | A unit code (km, mi) | Name and symbol (Kilometer (km)) |
| Area (metric / imperial) | A unit code | Name and symbol |
| Volume (metric / imperial) | A unit code | Name and symbol |
| Weight (metric / imperial) | A unit code | Name and symbol |
Because the stored value is a standard code, it stays valid if a label's wording changes, and other systems can read it directly.
To use one, set a choice field's choices source to the system dictionary, the same way as a dictionary of your own.
