Select Post and Select User
Select Post links an entry to one or more posts: a book's related books, a writer's "similar writers". Select User links it to one or more users: the staff member who manages a book.
The link is stored on this entry only. The writer doesn't know which books point to them.
If you need both sides to see the link, use a Post Relation or User Relation.
Choosing what the picker offers
Select Post
- Post types: which post types can be picked. An empty selection offers nothing; there's no automatic "all".
- Post statuses: for example, only published posts.
- Author scope: Any author, Current user only (posts written by the person editing), Current author (posts by the author of the entry being edited, or the current user on a brand-new post), or Specific authors.
- Exclude current post: stop a post from linking to itself.
Select User
- Roles and Required capability: which users can be picked.
- Exclude current user.
One or several
Allow multiple selections switches between picking one item and several. With multiple on, Minimum selections is a warning only, while Maximum selections is enforced: the picker stops at the limit, and extra items are dropped when saving.
Order decides how the picker lists items (by date, title or menu order for posts; by display name or date for users). Choose Manual to let editors drag the chosen items into the order they're stored and displayed in.
Links that break the rules are dropped
Every save re-checks the chosen items against the field's settings, whether it comes from the editor or an AI assistant. A post of the wrong type or status, outside the author scope, one the editor can't read, or the entry itself when excluded, is silently removed rather than blocking the save.
Technical details for LLMs
- Type keys:
select_post,select_user. Common:multiple(false),min_count(advisory),max_count(enforced/truncated),order_by,placeholder. - select_post:
post_types(empty = none),post_status,author_scope(any|current_user|current_author|specific),authors(user ids),exclude_self;order_bydate|title|menu_order|manual. - select_user:
roles,capability,exclude_self;order_bydisplay_name|date|manual. - Stored: JSON list of ids in meta under the field key, even when
multipleis off. - Abilities: read post/user refs; write an array of ids (single mode caps at one). VX Script: relation paths traverse into the linked object, e.g.
@post(writers.title).
