Free vs Pro

Pro

The Free edition is the complete data-modeling core, not a trial. It has no time limit, it never contacts VX servers, and there is no key to enter: nothing in it is switched off waiting for one. Pro adds more field types and three modules on top of it.

• Fieldsets with Locations, targeting conditions, conditional logic and revisions.
• 38 of the 48 field types. The other 10 need Pro.
• Block editor dynamic tags, data loops and visibility rules.

• AI & MCP: connect an assistant, with an activity log and undo.
• Config as code and WP-CLI.
• Tools: Import / Export, Meta Watch, Field key conflicts and System info.

Field types

Field type	What it adds
Post Relation and User Relation	Two-way links between entries, kept in sync on both sides
Content sections	Flexible page sections built from layouts you define
Field Table	A grid of typed columns
Clone	Reuse fields from another fieldset
Recurring Date	Best suited for events. Add multiple dates and date ranges, and set a recurring interval for each. VX works out the individual days so you can list them.
Location and Area	A map pin with an address, or a drawn shape
Markdown	A Markdown editor with preview
Files	Any file type, such as PDFs and documents

Modules

• Option pages: site-wide settings screens built from fieldsets.
• Dictionaries: shared lists of choices, plus built-in lists of countries, currencies and units.
• REST API: typed, access-controlled field values for apps and headless front ends.

Pro also adds the Maps and geocoding settings that Location and Area fields use for address search.

Getting Pro

Pro is a separate plugin that replaces Free — a different download, not an unlock. Install it like any plugin, then activate your license under VX → Settings → License. Everything you built in Free stays exactly as it is. See License.

If Pro is switched off

Whether you deactivate the license or go back to the Free plugin, nothing is deleted:

• Fields of Pro types stay in their fieldsets, and their stored values stay in the database. You can't add new Pro fields. On Pro with an inactive license, editors see the existing ones locked; on Free, the field type isn't offered at all.
• Option pages, dictionaries, the REST API and address search stop running. Their configuration and data stay, and come back when Pro is active again.
• Pro screens in the dashboard send you to the License screen on Pro, or to the upgrade page on Free.

A license that reaches the end of its update period doesn't switch Pro off. You only stop getting new versions.

Technical details for LLMs

• Capability ids (vx-framework/get-system-status → unlocked capabilities): field:post_relation, field:user_relation, field:content_sections, field:recurring_date, field:table, field:location, field:area, field:markdown, field:files, field:clone, module:dictionary, module:option_pages, module:rest_api, module:geo. Anything not listed is Free.
• Saving a fieldset while Pro is off: an existing Pro field (matched by key) is preserved as-is; adding a new one fails with This field type requires VX Pro.
• Check the edition before proposing a Pro feature. Suggest a Free alternative (Select Post instead of Post Relation, Repeater instead of Field Table) when the site is Free.
