What is VX Framework
VX Framework is a data-modeling plugin for WordPress. You describe the kinds of content your site holds and the details each one carries. VX then builds the editing forms, stores and validates the values, and makes them available to your front end, whether that's the block editor, Bricks, a PHP theme, or a headless app.
Take a bookshop that lists Books and the Writers who wrote them. Out of the box, WordPress gives each book a title, some content and a featured image. With VX, a book can also have a price, an author name, an author picture, a cover gallery, a publisher address, and links to its writers. Each of those is a field with its own type, rules and editing form. Your first model starts smaller — a Book post type with format, author name, author picture, and published date — and the rest of the docs keep using this shop as later examples grow.
The building blocks
Structures decide what kinds of content exist.
- A post type is a kind of content, such as Books or Writers. You can create one in VX or take over the settings of one that already exists.
- A taxonomy groups content, such as a Genre taxonomy for books (Fiction, Mystery, Science fiction).
- An option page is a settings screen for values that apply site-wide, like opening hours for the shop or a footer phone number.
- A dictionary is a reusable list of choices, like levels or amenities, that many fields can share.
Fieldsets decide what details each piece of content carries.
- A fieldset is a named group of fields, such as "Book details" with a published date, a gallery and a price.
- Each field has a type: text, number, image, repeater, and dozens of others.
- A fieldset on its own appears nowhere. Its Locations decide where the form shows up: on a post type, on a taxonomy's terms, or on user profiles.
Keeping structures and fieldsets separate means you can reuse one fieldset on several post types. You can also add fields to post types that another plugin registered, such as WooCommerce products, without taking them over.
Where values go next
Once editors fill in values, you choose how to show them:
- Block editor: dynamic tags bind field values to core blocks, data loops repeat a block for each item, and visibility rules show or hide blocks.
- Bricks: VX fields appear as Bricks dynamic tags and query loop sources.
- PHP themes: read values in templates with typed helpers.
- Apps and headless front ends: the REST API adds typed values to WordPress's own endpoints.
Three ways to build
You can build the same model in any of three ways, and mix them:
- In the dashboard, under VX in the wp-admin menu. This is where most people start.
- With an AI assistant, connected over MCP. It can read your model and make changes you can review and undo.
- In code: config as code keeps your model in PHP or JSON files under version control.
