Number, stepper, and sliders
Number and Stepper
Number stores a number: a capacity, a year, a duration in minutes. Stepper is the same field with plus and minus buttons, handy for small counts like the number of guests.
- Minimum value and Maximum value set the allowed range. A value outside it is saved with a warning.
- Step controls how much the arrows change the value —
1,0.5,10. - A display-only prefix and suffix can show a unit:
€before,minafter.
Decimals
The field takes any number, so 1.2 and 1.56496 are both saved as typed. Nothing needs to be configured for decimals.
Step does not change that. It sizes the arrows and nothing else: on a step of 0.5 the arrows move by half, and a typed 12.34 is still saved as 12.34. Use a Slider when the value has to land on the step.
Minimum, Maximum and the default value take decimals too, so a field can start at 0.5 and stop at 9.99. A value with more than ten decimal places is rounded to ten — past that a decimal number no longer holds its digits accurately.
Slider
Slider is a number set by dragging along a track between a Min and a Max, in increments of Step. It suits ratings and percentages: "Noise level, 0–10". The saved value is always kept inside the range and snapped to the nearest step, and it can have decimals (a step of 0.5 allows 7.5).
Range slider
Range slider stores two numbers, a start and an end, set with two handles on one track: "Price range, €10–€40" or "Age group, 18–35". It has the same Min, Max and Step as Slider, plus:
- From label and To label, shown next to the two values (default "Min" and "Max").
- A Value prefix shown before each displayed value, such as
€. - A default start and end for new entries.
The start is always saved as the lower number. Conditional logic can test the start and end separately.
Technical details for LLMs
- number / stepper: settings
min,max,step,default_value(all float),prefix, suffix, placeholder.stepis presentation only — it sizes the arrows and the browser's spinner, and takes no part in storage. Input is stored as given, rounded only at 10 decimals (half away from zero), as a plain number string —"13","12.34", never scientific notation. Min/max violations are warnings. - number / stepper, REST read: number or
