Requirements and installation
VX Framework installs like any other WordPress plugin. Check the requirements below first.
Requirements
| Minimum | |
|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.9 |
| PHP | 8.1 |
| Database | MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.3 |
WordPress won't activate the plugin on an older WordPress or PHP version. The System info screen checks all three and flags anything below the minimum.
When you activate it, VX creates a few database tables of its own: config revisions, import sessions and the AI activity log. If the revisions table goes missing, System info can recreate it.
Relations and dictionary entries have tables of their own too, which System info can recreate.
Who can use the dashboard
The VX menu in wp-admin, and everything under it, requires the manage_options capability, so by default only administrators see it.
The same applies to editing field values on posts, terms and user profiles: the VX fields appear only for users who can manage options. Other roles, such as Editors and Authors, still edit titles, content and everything else WordPress provides, but they don't see the VX fields. See Editing content.
Option pages are the exception, because each one sets its own required capability.
The dashboard is built for desktop. Below 783 pixels wide, the width where WordPress switches to its mobile admin menu, it shows Editing is not supported at this resolution and can't be used. Editing field values on posts, terms and users still works on smaller screens.
Installing Pro
Pro is a separate plugin that replaces the Free one. Install it the way you install any plugin. Your fieldsets, post types and content stay as they are. Then activate your license under VX → Settings → License (see License).
Removing VX
Deactivating or deleting the plugin doesn't delete your data. Field values stay in the database as ordinary post, term and user meta, and VX's own tables and options stay too. If you reinstall, everything comes back as you left it.
Content in post types and taxonomies that VX registered stays in the database. While VX is inactive, WordPress no longer knows those types exist, so it won't show that content in wp-admin.
Technical details for LLMs
- Tables (created on activation):
{prefix}vxframework_config_revisions,{prefix}vxframework_ability_activity,{prefix}vxframework_config_import_sessions,{prefix}vxframework_config_import_session_items. - Also:
{prefix}vx_relations(relation fields) and{prefix}vx_dictionary_entries(dictionaries). - Options use the
vxframework_prefix (for examplevxframework_docs_manifest). - No uninstall routine: deleting the plugin leaves every table, option and meta row in place.
vx-framework/get-system-statusreports the field types registered on the site, requirements, table health and config lock state.
